One of those rare times I travelled to the other end of the world island. Literally sat through the whole of the train line (yes, the absolutely-different-galaxy-sounding Joo Koon train station included). I can’t exactly remember what it was that possessed us to go to Simei, but whatever it was, we got another halal eatery crossed off the to-go list.

The mister had his reservations with regard to the overhype of the restaurant’s mission being akin to that of Jamie Oliver’s 15 in London, whereas I had my reservations when my plate of spaghetti came looking like that of Spaghetti Too’s (oh, horrid horrid memories).

But we were both pleasantly surprised, and each found a special something that captured our hearts. For the mister, it was the comics box by the counter, and the design of the parmesan cheese shaker which was a wish come true for the dammit-the-cheese-is-stuck-at-the-lil-holes cheesaholic. For myself, it was the cookbook corner by the entrance, and the fact that my spicy spaghetti came with finely chopped bird’s eye chilli that left me sweating beneath my underscarf.

So now, it’s official. I will travel to the other end of the island for two reasons, and two reasons alone. Arnold’s and Eighteen Chefs.

Ah you just had to mention 10 mins, didn’t you! Your last sentence sounds like those old Malay radio dedication shows, where the caller’s message always goes, “Kenang aku dalam doamu” :P

Oh, and if you go there, give the ice-cream a miss. I believe it’s Kings ice-cream, or one of those NTUC tubs :P

It’s at Eastpoint Mall, but you gotta walk on the outside of the mall to see it and enter :P I love the fact that you can come up with your own combination of pasta/baked rice from the Mix & Match section! And check out the daily specials; you might find something that catches your fancy.

hey I just popped by 18 chefs for the very first time yesterday for lunch, what a coincidence! And like u I was pleasantly surprised!! The food was good.. Tho I think u are smarter than me, I couldnt figure out the mix and match thing for nutz. And neither could my colleague!! Haha.. our iqs and degrees combined also couldnt decipher the ordering system.

Anyway I had the cheese baked rice with the salmon, it was really really good and the garlic bread was yummy. I asked the waiter for a glass of water and he handed me the ice tea he was holding and said why don’t u have this instead. I thought wow, what service. Cant wait to bring H there. He’s skeptical tho, he’s given up on food in the east..

It’s a great dining experience, wasn’t it? That was nice of the waiter :) I liked the fact that at the end of the meal, the manager came up to ask our feedback. Apparently they have chilli crab also if I’m not mistaken, but you’ve to call a day before to enquire. I can’t wait to go back there again. Try to convince H! :P
