114: fleur sur le film

Though the last one isn’t quite a flower, there is definitely an understated beauty in a solitary tree unabashedly frail and thin amidst a flurry of lush greens. Set against a damp sky, with every branch petalling out in an almost synchronised Rorschach art, the tree leaves me with the same reserved mollifying whispers as those of flushed blooms.

085: roid week ’09 – day 5

tea

It came and went. Roid Week ’09 came to an end last Friday, 8th May. It was a great week of Polaroid celebration, and I most certainly had my fair share of fun snapping away, finishing the final pack in Pando.

The whole week had been quite a blur, whizzing by with an unexpected flu that left me nursing a runny nose one day, a fever the next, a cough the day third day, and a returning fever thereafter, and recovering just in time to prepare for the Mother’s Day bake sale.

But amidst all that, one must always have a quiet moment of respite. An early dinner conversation with the mister punctuated with soothing gestures and warm smiles, served alongside a cup of warm tea with a bite-sized biscuit, to wash down a strawberry mousse slice;– a lovely end to my hectic week.

Hope you had a lovely week yourself!

084: ‘roid week 09 – theme: children

Sorry about the lack of update yesterday; I still played through ‘Roid Week, but didn’t manage to find the time to scan the polaroids, finding myself preoccupied with two of my nieces who came for a sleepover.

I’m a huge fan of portraiture, particularly child photography. I’m not much of a portrait photographer, preferring to capture inanimate objects (blame the introvert in me). As such, it always captivates me when I see lovely photos of children. They have an amazing innocence that simply shines through the lens.

The cheeky look they have in their eyes, that gaze of concentration when something catches their attention, that playful smile they don, forcing us to join in their antics;– children are the hardest, yet most deserving subjects of photography.

These are my Roid Week 09 Day 3 and Day 4 entries. The first of the 3-year-old elder sister who insists on having her photo taken with a potato chip dangling from her lips; the second of the 1plus-year-old who was much too engrossed in colouring the paper floor, and thereafter her thighs and fingers.

One doesn’t like to eat, and is extremely picky with her food and hygiene, but she loves to snack on potato chips and crackers. Another doesn’t like to bathe and will wail very loudly, but is always too quiet when she finds pretty much anything to put in her mouth (and that includes eating/drinking her sister’s share).

Along with two other lovely nieces, they each have their distinct lovable traits, and I sometimes wish all four of them wouldn’t grow too fast.

083: ‘roid week 09 – day 2

cat-1

Those who know me would be aware of the fact that I’ve been afraid of cats since I was a young child, squirming to stay still in my seat after pushing away my half-eaten meal, eyes transfixed on the cats freely roaming the zinc roofs of the Geylang Serai market, occasionally feeling a breeze in my legs, which I likened to cat fur.

Those who know me well enough would be aware of the fact that nothing comes between my fear(s) and capturing a shot.

And yes, in case you’re wondering, I ran all the way home after taking this, believing that the cat was following me.
